Must-have items for those who got a job transfer
Introduction
When I lived in a furnished apartment alone, I felt uncomfortable since I didn’t bring enough everyday items with me thinking that my stay would be just a short one.
Therefore, I’m going to list some items that I think would be useful for those who plan to get a job transfer in the future.
List of must-have items
The following is the list:
Kitchen utensils
- frying pan, pan/pot, and kettle.
- spatula, tong, ladle, whisk, colander, bowl, and tray.
- knife, cutting board, peeler, and grater.
- seasonings: (in my case) soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, sake, sweet cooking rice wine, stock, miso, various types of sauces, ketchup, mayonnaise, and red pepper powder.
- chopsticks, spoons, forks, plates, rice bowls, and plastic containers (it is necessary to have a basket to keep them after washing in case of not having one).
- sponge, scrubber, and kitchen detergent.
- plastic wrap, cooking foil.
- water purifier (if you don’t have one, bottled water will do.)
- kitchen paper, wet-and-dry tissue paper.
- garbage bag, net for drainage outlet, rubber band, and kitchen timer.
Laundry article
- laundry net, laundry detergent, basket, clothes hanger, clothes-peg, *parasol-hanger (this is very handy), and laundry rope (in case one is not provided).
*Please see the attached photo of the example of parasol-hanger.
Bath utensils
- bath detergent, sponge, mold remover, soap, shampoo, shaving, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand-mirror, towel, underwear, etc.
Toilet utensils
- toilet brush, toilet detergent, toilet paper, air freshener, and so on
Cleaning equipment
- floor wiper, cleaning rag, bucket, alcohol, and so on
Useful things to have
- magnetic hook, holder and paper holder (it’s handy if you can stick them on magnetic objects like a fridge.), power tap with USB ports, electric kettle, toaster (for bread lovers), small basket, and trolley (for moving out)
Others
- instant food (rice to be cooked in microwave for emergency), clock and batteries.
Wrapping up
How did you like it?
It’s convenient to live in a furnished apartment because there is almost every household item you would need.
However, nobody can move in with a single bag like a TV drama. (This might be fine if you stay only for a few days or weeks.)
In my case, I ended up having to buy all the necessary items after I moved there.
You should make a list of what you will need and pack them before moving so that you won’t have to spend extra money or own more stuff.
Moving somewhere you’ve never been might make you nervous, but if you can live without stress, I believe you can enjoy and refresh your mind by living alone away from you family.
